In the ongoing defamation case initiated by former APNU+AFC minister Cathy Hughes against PPP General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, Hughes has admitted that her claim regarding Jagdeo offering Venezuela a “channel” to resolve the border dispute was fabricated.
She acknowledged that this claim was not based on any action taken by Jagdeo during his time as president.
At a recent press conference, Jagdeo expressed his approval that the case had gone to court, revealing how it exposed dishonesty within opposition ranks.
He emphasized that Hughes’ allegations were made without evidence and involved events that took place before he became president.
Additionally, Jagdeo highlighted that the opposition attempted to misuse evidence to support their case, taking things out of context.
He further clarified that while discussions had occurred about potential maritime solutions, such ideas were not proposed or endorsed by him.
The lawsuit stems from a period of increased tension between Guyana and Venezuela, during which Jagdeo criticized opposition figures for spreading misinformation and attempting to disrupt national unity.
