Heavy Rainfall Causes Severe Flooding in Linden

By Tracey Liverpool

Several communities in Linden were severely impacted by flooding over the weekend, following an intense period of heavy rainfall.

Areas such as Retrieve, Poker Street, Second & Third Alley, and Silvertown experienced significant water accumulation, leading to widespread damage to homes and property.

According to the Linden Town Council, the flooding was caused by blocked culverts, which prevented adequate drainage during the downpour.

The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) has been called in to provide support, with plans to deploy an excavator to clear the obstructions and restore proper water flow.

Some residents of Retrieve reported as much as 14 inches of water inside their homes after just 45 minutes of rainfall.

In Silvertown, the water rose to knee-high levels, affecting over 40 households.

Many residents expressed concerns over the extent of the damage, with furniture and appliances destroyed by the floodwaters.

Local authorities, including the Linden Town Council, are working to address the situation, while residents continue to seek relief and assess their losses.
