University of Guyana Advances Vision 2040 Goals

The University of Guyana (UG) is making notable strides in achieving its Vision 2040, a transformative plan launched in 2019 to reshape higher education in the country.

This ambitious initiative centers on four primary goals, with a key focus on ensuring that at least one graduate emerges from each household across Guyana.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Paloma Mohammed-Martin recently provided an update on the progress of Vision 2040.

A review of UG’s student demographics from the 2017/2018 academic year revealed that 95% of graduates were from coastal and more affluent areas.

To address this disparity, UG aims to provide equitable opportunities for students from all regions and economic backgrounds.

Dr. Mohammed-Martin highlighted that research indicates having at least one university graduate in a household can increase the family’s socio-economic status by over 40%.

This, she explained, can inspire others and drive positive changes within communities.

Vision 2040 is not merely a strategic plan but a commitment to making higher education accessible to all and fostering national development.

By promoting inclusivity and diversity, the University of Guyana is working to transform lives and contribute to the country’s growth.
