Guyana Defence Force FC Secures Second KFC Elite League Title

The Guyana Defence Force FC (GDF) clinched their second consecutive title in a tightly contested final week of Season Six of the KFC Elite League, despite a scoreless draw against Slingerz FC at the Guyana Football Federation National Training Center in Providence.

In a match attended by a passionate crowd, the game ended in a stalemate, with both teams struggling to break through a stalwart midfield battle.

Slingerz FC, who had previously lost the title to GDF, pushed hard for a decisive goal with several attempts on target.

However, their efforts were thwarted by GDF’s goalkeeper, Duqain Samuels, who delivered a standout performance, securing a clean sheet and keeping key players like Kemar Beckford and Marcus Tudor at bay.

GDF Captain Colin Nelson, named MVP of the league, expressed his pleasure at witnessing the younger players’ growth and their chance to win back-to-back league titles.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Garrett from Slingerz FC reflected on his team’s inability to convert opportunities into goals, acknowledging that despite their dominance and adherence to the game plan, they fell short in finishing.

Earlier in the week, Police FC defeated Den Amstel FC 5-0, with standout performances from Neron Barrow, who scored a hat-trick, and Dorwin George.

At the end of the season, individual accolades were awarded, with Colin Nelson securing the MVP title, Marcus Tudor of Slingerz FC, and Neron Barrow both being recognized as the league’s top scorers with 18 goals each.

Akel Clarke of Slingerz FC was named Best Goalkeeper.

As the season concluded, GDF and Slingerz FC finished in first and second place respectively, while Police FC and Den Amstel FC took third and fourth places. Boxton United is set to be relegated to a lower tier.
