Health Report Highlights Smoking Risks and Support Measures

By Tracy Romalho

Smoking continues to be a major health concern, with links to severe conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

Tobacco products are known to contain harmful substances, including acetone, tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide, which can adversely affect the lungs and other organs.

Dr. Bibi Ali, Head of the Respirology Clinic at Georgetown Public Hospital, discussed the chronic health issues associated with smoking, including persistent coughs among long-term smokers.

In response to these risks, the Ministry of Health has introduced nicotine lozenges to help individuals quit smoking by reducing nicotine cravings.

The Ministry is encouraging smokers to seek support and take steps to improve their health.
