National Cleanup Exercise Scheduled for August 17

Guyana’s government, in collaboration with the private sector, will conduct a National Cleanup Exercise on August 17, led by the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development.

The initiative aims to complement the country’s infrastructural advancements with a cleaner environment, promoting healthier lifestyles and a tidier community.

Minister Sonia Parag emphasized that the exercise, starting at 6 a.m., will involve all administrative regions, with specific focus on Georgetown and surrounding areas.

She encouraged all citizens to take pride in keeping their communities clean, stressing the importance of cleanliness in maintaining the nation’s transformation agenda.

The private sector has shown strong support for the exercise.

Kathy Smith, Senior Vice President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), urged business owners to contribute to ensuring a clean, healthy environment for both residents and businesses.

This national effort is part of President Irfaan Ali’s broader initiative to enhance community development and public engagement across Guyana.
