A family of nine in Kwakwani, Berbice River, is now homeless after a fire completely destroyed their home on Monday evening.
The Guyana Fire Service confirmed that the fire was caused by an unattended electrical stove.
The fire occurred at Lot 68, Second Phase Housing Scheme, and was quickly responded to by Water Tender #69.
Despite the firefighters’ swift efforts, the two-storey home was reduced to ashes.
No injuries were reported, but the family has been left without a home.
The Guyana Fire Service is reminding the public to ensure electrical appliances are turned off and properly monitored to prevent similar incidents.
