Youth Summer Camp Launched in Sophia to Promote Personal Growth and Community Engagement

By Kimberly Giddings

The government of Guyana, through the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, has launched a youth summer camp at the North Sophia Community Centre in Greater Georgetown.

The camp, running from August 12 to August 16, aims to foster community involvement and provide educational support to children through the Social-Emotional Support Initiative.

During the launch, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindya Persaud, engaged with the young participants, encouraging them to fully participate in the camp.

She emphasized the importance of using this opportunity to enhance personal development and emotional well-being, empowering them to contribute positively to their community.

The camp is designed to offer a healthy environment where children can grow, learn their rights, and be supported by the government.

Parents present at the event also expressed their gratitude, noting the significance of such initiatives in shaping the lives of the youth.

One parent, June Watts, urged the children to take full advantage of the program to enrich their lives both educationally and emotionally.

The youth summer camp is part of a broader government initiative to provide support to young people during the school break, with plans to extend similar programs to other regions throughout the summer.
