Hundreds of Guyanese are set to benefit from the allocation of house lots and land titles at the 2024 International Building Expo, held at the National Stadium in Providence.
Recipients expressed their gratitude for this significant milestone, sharing their joy at finally becoming landowners.
Among the beneficiaries was Stanley Wills, who applied for his house lot in 2022.
Wills expressed his happiness and relief now that the process is complete.
Another recipient, Jasmat Seetal, who had been waiting since 2011, noted that owning land will provide stability after years of renting.
David Persaud, who received his lot in Non Pariel, stated that his next step is to begin building his home.
Sherwin Greaves, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), highlighted that the distribution began on the first night of the expo, focusing on Regions 3 and 4.
Areas such as Enterprise, Non Pariel, LBI, and Wales were targeted for allocation.
Greaves also emphasized that the government remains committed to acquiring additional land to meet housing demands, despite competing interests from agriculture and businesses.
Plans are in place to extend house lot distribution to other regions, including Regions 2, 3, 6, 4, and 10, in the near future.
