The University of Guyana Student Society (UGSS) has launched its highly anticipated annual cricket tournament at Queens’ College ground, featuring four competing teams.

The event, held in favorable weather conditions, began with preliminary matches that set the stage for the final day of play on Saturday.

Christopher Francisco, Chair of the UGSS Games Committee, emphasized the importance of such extracurricular activities in enhancing student engagement and campus life.

Francisco highlighted the tournament as part of a broader effort to revive and promote various student activities at the university.

Although the turnout was lower than hoped, Francisco remains optimistic and is committed to improving participation in future events.

He pointed out that the UGSS is working on policies to provide additional incentives for student involvement, including potential academic credits.

The participating teams include Tain Campus, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, the Faculty of Natural Science, and the Faculty of Education and Humanities.

The final match is scheduled for Saturday, promising an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
