Youth Rugby Camp Set to Boost Recruitment

By Travis Seymour

The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) is launching its August Rugby Camp, titled ‘Get into Rugby,’ aimed at attracting young players to the sport.

The camp, to be held at the National Park Rugby Field, kicks off on August 10 and will run every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for youths aged 10-18.

According to GRFU President Ryan Dey, the camp is a crucial part of their efforts to build a strong nursery for rugby in Guyana.

The initiative is open to all, and Dey encourages interested youths to take advantage of the opportunity to try out a new and fulfilling sport.

The last camp, held in 2022, saw participation from around 250 youngsters.

This year’s camp will expand on the collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport’s Core Sports Academy program and aims to prepare players for age-group events in Rugby Americas North for both boys and girls.
