Tuberculosis Cases Decline in Guyana, Progress Reported in HIV Treatment

The Ministry of Health has reported a significant decrease in tuberculosis (TB) cases in Guyana, with the number of cases dropping from 500 annually to fewer than 300 in the past year.

This reduction is attributed to ongoing health interventions designed to combat the disease.

The Ministry aims to maintain this downward trend by continuing and enhancing the measures already in place.

The progress in the fight against TB is seen as a positive step toward improving public health in the country.

In addition to the decline in TB cases, notable advancements have been made in the treatment of HIV.

According to the Ministry, approximately 9,000 individuals living with the virus are now virally suppressed, meaning they are unable to transmit the infection to others.

This development underscores the effectiveness of the current HIV management strategies, with a focus on regular testing and treatment adherence.

The Ministry hopes to see these trends continue and encourages those affected to remain committed to their treatment and testing routines.
