‘Sizzle, Serve, and Conquer’: Emancipation Day Cook-Up Competition

Councilwoman Sancha Halley is organizing a day of family fun with the second annual Emancipation Cook-Up competition, scheduled for August 1.

The event, themed “Sizzle, Serve, and Conquer,” will take place at the ball field opposite Lover’s Lane.

This initiative aims to bring people together to celebrate African culture and the spirit of Emancipation Day.

Halley emphasized that the event is designed to foster camaraderie and enjoyment, with activities like games and traditional celebrations.

She encouraged attendees to embrace the festivities and join in the fun.

The highlight of the day will be the cook-up competition, where participants will be judged on taste and presentation.

Winners will receive cash prizes and trophies, with the first prize set at $20,000.

In addition to the cooking competition, three additional prizes will be awarded for the best male, female, and child African-themed outfits.

Emancipation Day, observed annually on August 1 in Guyana, commemorates the abolition of slavery and celebrates the nation’s freedom.
