African Organizations Receive Grants to Support Emancipation Celebrations

On July 26, several African organizations across the country received government grants at a ceremony held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

The grants are intended to support the preservation and celebration of African culture in the lead-up to the Emancipation celebrations on August 1.

Emerson Benjamin, one of the beneficiaries, expressed his appreciation for the support, noting that the grant is essential for enhancing the success and impact of their cultural activities.

Without such sponsorship, he explained, achieving their desired level of success would be challenging.

Tasia Allen, another recipient, highlighted the importance of the grant in covering some of the expenses associated with their cultural events.

She pointed out that, typically, they have to raise funds independently, and the grant helps alleviate some of those financial burdens.

Acting Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Kwame McCoy, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Afro-Guyanese community.

He emphasized that the government remains steadfast in its support, underscoring its dedication to aiding cultural and community initiatives.

The grants will facilitate a variety of activities including recreational, educational, and entertainment events, all designed to enrich the Emancipation celebrations.
