St. George’s High School, which was devastated by fire in 2022, will undergo a transformation into a specialized School of Sciences starting this September.
Education Minister Priya Manickchand announced this initiative, aimed at nurturing students’ interests in medical sciences who may not have qualified for top-tier or list A schools.
This new secondary school will be the first of its kind in Guyana, focusing on preparing students for careers in medical sciences.
Minister Manickchand highlighted plans for similar restructuring and construction projects for other schools across the country.
The modern facility will replace the former St. George’s High School, providing state-of-the-art infrastructure to support specialized education in sciences.
Minister Manickchand outlined the entry requirements for the school, emphasizing inclusivity and access for students passionate about medical careers.
Currently, the Ministry of Education is actively constructing 27 secondary schools nationwide, with several slated for completion by September.
Over 15,000 students were recently placed in various secondary schools, with assurances that those under construction will be ready for the upcoming school term.
This initiative reflects the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and infrastructure across Guyana, ensuring that students have access to specialized learning environments tailored to their interests and career aspirations.
