The Cummingsburg Bounty Colts secured the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Under 23 League championship with a flawless record, defeating the Kwakwani Untouchables in a thrilling final over the weekend.
In a closely contested match, the first quarter ended with the Bounty Colts narrowly ahead, leading 17-16 against the Untouchables.
As the game progressed into the second quarter, the Colts extended their lead to 36-30 by capitalizing on missed opportunities from their opponents.
The third quarter saw a spirited comeback from the Untouchables, led by their captain, Demarcus Adams.
Strong three-point shooting allowed the team from Kwakwani to take the lead for the first time in the game by the end of the period.
Entering the decisive fourth quarter, the game remained tightly contested.
Kadeem Dover of the Untouchables had a chance to secure victory with two free throws but missed both, leaving his team with a slim one-point lead in the final moments.
However, Carmello Man-Son-Hing of the Colts seized the opportunity, scoring both crucial free throws with only 1.7 seconds remaining on the clock.
Despite a last-ditch effort by the Untouchables, the Colts held on to claim a narrow 76-75 victory.
Charles Williams led the scoring for the Colts with 23 points, supported by 17 points from Man-Son-Hing.
Kadeem Dover contributed 20 points for the Untouchables in a valiant effort.
After the match, Colts’ captain Ronoko Vaughn expressed his team’s determination and resilience, highlighting their defensive efforts as crucial to their success.
Vaughn emphasized the motivation to win a championship, driving the team to excel despite facing challenges throughout the game.
The league was sponsored by Wilson Plumbing Services and General Supplies, along with support from the National Sports Commission through the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport.
