Ministry of Labour Partners with Coursera for Skills Training Initiative

By Nakasia Logan

The Ministry of Labour has announced a new collaboration with Coursera to enhance the skills training available through the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) programmes.

This initiative, two years in the making, aims to improve the marketability of skilled workers by providing access to a range of online courses.

Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton highlighted the importance of this venture, emphasizing that it aims to bring higher quality and innovation to the training provided.

The new portal, launched earlier today, marks a significant step forward in addressing the technical skills deficit.

Executive Member of Coursera, Jeff Kaplan, expressed enthusiasm for the project, which includes creating a life skills programme tailored to the needs of the participants.

Chief Executive Officer of BIT, Richard Maughn, urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of this opportunity, noting that successful completion of the mandatory courses will grant access to additional training programmes.

The programme covers three mandatory areas: Health and Wellness, Literacy and Numeracy, and Entrepreneurship.

Upon completing these courses, participants will have the opportunity to enroll in further courses to enhance their professional skills.

This collaboration is expected to significantly impact the professional lives of over a thousand beneficiaries, providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to excel in their respective fields.
