Severe flooding in the Central Mackenzie area and surrounding communities has prompted an emergency cleanup exercise in Linden.
The cleanup effort, which commenced at 06:00 am on Saturday, is a collaborative initiative involving the Ministry of Public Works, the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority, the Civil Defense Commission, and the Linden Regional Democratic Council (RDC) along with the Municipality and Town Council (M&TC).
Efforts primarily focus on delisting drains and culverts, and removing debris to ensure unobstructed drainage flow through channels.
Lennox Gasper, Linden’s Town Clerk, emphasized the need to clear cross streets and remove obstructions hindering drainage in affected areas.
Following the drain clearing, the Linden Fire Service will assist by washing the roads to further enhance drainage efficacy.
The Linden Mayor and Town Council have issued a public notice urging vendors to cooperate, facilitating a thorough cleanup and minimizing further business disruptions due to flooding risks with anticipated rainfall.
Region Ten representative Andrew Forsythe acknowledged the magnitude of the cleanup, suggesting it might extend over several days. He stressed the importance of ongoing maintenance to prevent future flooding incidents.
Recent heavy rainfall has submerged many communities, particularly impacting the Linden business district.
