Today, Guyana’s judiciary received a significant enhancement with the swearing-in of ten new Puisne judges at the Office of the President.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali announced that these appointments were made following a rigorous selection process by the Judicial Service Commission, which evaluated 37 applicants.
The newly appointed judges include Nicola Pierre, Joy Persaud-Singh, Hessaun Yasin, Deborah Kumae-Chetty, Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, Nigel Niles, Peter Hugh, Jacqueline Josiah-Graham, Priscilla Chandra-Hanif, and Zamilla Ally-Seepaul.
President Ali highlighted that eight out of the ten appointees are women, underscoring Guyana’s significant participation of women judges on a global scale.
He commended their commitment to upholding justice with integrity, noting that their decisions set important legal precedents.
These appointments follow a series of judicial appointments this year, including magistrates, Justices of Appeal, and Commissioners of Title.
The government has also increased investments aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the judiciary in delivering justice.
