Traffic Chief Urges Greater Public Vigilance on Country’s Roadways

Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh, the Traffic Chief, is calling for increased public vigilance and responsible behavior on the nation’s roadways following yet another tragic loss of life.

In response to the recent death of Police Sergeant Renaldo Brumell on the Montrose public road in East Coast Demerara, the Traffic Chief expressed deep concern and urged the public to prioritize safety while driving.

During an interview on a local radio station, Singh emphasized the need for collective efforts to prevent road fatalities.

He lamented the loss of lives and reminded the public of their role in ensuring road safety, stressing that reckless driving and disregard for regulations have dire consequences.

So far this year, forty-two fatal accidents have been recorded, resulting in the loss of fifty-two lives.

Singh urged road users to recognize that road conditions, weather, and visibility are factors that demand increased caution and patience.

Singh also raised concerns about reckless behavior among pedestrians and highlighted the critical role of enforcement in promoting safer road practices.

He emphasized that speeding should never be an option and called on all road users to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic laws to prevent further tragedies.

As Guyana grapples with road safety challenges, Singh’s plea serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior and collective efforts to ensure safer roadways for all.
