Region 3 Commemorates World Environment Week with Interfaith Service

In observance of World Environment Week, the Environmental Health Department of Region 3 hosted an interfaith service and brunch to underscore the critical importance of environmental preservation.

The interfaith service and brunch served as a platform to emphasize the symbiotic relationship between the environment and human well-being.

Guest speaker Senior Environmental Officer Ian Shamsudeen emphasized actionable steps individuals can take to contribute to environmental preservation, including volunteering time and resources, promoting sustainable practices, and advocating for sustainable agriculture and water management.

Shamsudeen highlighted how these efforts directly impact food security, underscoring the interconnectedness of environmental conservation and human livelihoods.

Principal Environmental Health Officer at the Ministry of Health, Nayan Persaud, echoed similar sentiments, calling for a reaffirmation of commitment to protecting and preserving the planet.

Persaud urged individuals to reduce their carbon footprint, conserve natural resources, and advocate for policies prioritizing environmental stability.

World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, marks the beginning of Environment Week in Guyana.

The week-long observance includes various activities such as health walks, environmental talks, and tree-planting exercises, aimed at raising awareness and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.

As Guyana continues to prioritize environmental sustainability, events like the interfaith service serve as reminders of the collective responsibility to safeguard the environment for future generations.
