In response to heavy rainfall causing widespread flooding, the Central Government has initiated emergency works in Linden, Region 10, aimed at providing relief to affected areas.
Prime Minister Mark Phillips underscores the need for collaborative efforts between local government bodies to address drainage issues and prevent future flooding.
Heavy rainfall on Monday night into Tuesday morning exacerbated flooding in several parts of the country, including Linden.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Mark Phillips and Public Works Minister Juan Edghill spearheaded emergency efforts to enhance drainage systems in the mining town and alleviate the plight of residents.
In a statement, Prime Minister Phillips emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Central Government, the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), and the Town Council to implement remedial and routine maintenance measures to mitigate flooding risks.
Prime Minister Phillips also urged residents to take proactive measures by maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings and refraining from indiscriminate dumping of garbage into waterways, which often leads to blockages in drainage systems.
During his visit to Linden, Prime Minister Phillips actively participated in clearing blocked drainage pipes on the Kara Kara Bridge and identified areas requiring immediate interventions to improve water flow.
Emergency works will persist in the township to ensure that waterways are cleared, facilitating faster runoff during periods of heavy rainfall.
As Linden grapples with flooding, the Central Government remains committed to providing assistance and implementing measures to safeguard the well-being of residents.
