PPP General Secretary and Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo announced today that the government will be taking decisive actions to investigate and root out corruption within the public procurement system.
During a media conference, Dr. Jagdeo outlined the government’s plans to ensure compliance with procurement laws and hold accountable those responsible for any illegal practices.
The government will conduct thorough examinations of public procurement procedures and activities at all levels, from public corporations and statutory bodies to ministries and the national tender board.
Dr. Jagdeo issued a stern warning to all individuals involved in procurement, emphasizing that anyone found violating procurement laws will face consequences.
Dr. Jagdeo highlighted several areas of focus, including payment for public goods and services and the delays caused by accounting officers.
He emphasized the importance of holding accountable those responsible for certifying works paid for with taxpayers’ money.
Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that no individual will be allowed to evade responsibility by playing the political card, and warned of sting operations to uncover corruption.
The President has already briefed ministers on the government’s stance against corruption and the need for strict adherence to procurement laws.
Dr. Jagdeo’s announcement underscores the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity in public procurement processes.
