By Travis Seymour

Castrol Strikers and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) displayed their prowess with decisive victories in the latest matches of the Demerara Volleyball Association Club League held at the National Gymnasium.

On Tuesday evening, the Guyana Defence Force triumphed over the Eagles Volleyball Club with a straight-sets victory.

The GDF team, led by Omari Joseph and Steffon Norah, dominated both offensively and defensively.

They secured the opening set 25-20, continued their momentum with a 25-22 win in the second set, and clinched the match with another 25-22 win in the third set.

The previous day saw a thrilling clash between Castrol Strikers and Alpha Volleyball Club, determining the top team in the league.

Alpha initially took the lead by winning the first set 25-20.

However, Castrol Strikers, driven by top scorer Corwyn Richards, rallied to win the next two sets 25-16 and 25-13.

Despite Alpha’s determination, which saw them clinch the fourth set 25-23, Castrol Strikers came back to take the fifth set 16-14, securing the overall victory.

The win solidifies Castrol Strikers’ position at the top of the league table with 20 points as the second round intensifies.

Matches continue this evening at the National Gymnasium.
