Verway and Alphonso Prepare for Caribbean Squash Championship

By Tyriq Walters

National squash players Joshua Verway and Michael Alphonso are gearing up for the Caribbean Squash Championship scheduled for July in the British Virgin Islands.

Training diligently at the Georgetown Club Courts, Verway and Alphonso express their enthusiasm for the upcoming championship.

Alphonso appreciates being selected for the tournament and is grateful for the opportunity to compete, vowing to give his best performance.

Verway, on the other hand, is happy to represent Guyana and is excited to participate in the Caribbean Squash Championship for the fourth time.

Their preparations, which began in mid-April, have focused on various aspects of their game.

They have been working hard on improving their skills and fitness levels to ensure they perform at their peak during the championship.

Both players acknowledge the significant improvement in their fitness, attributing it to the rigorous training provided by the national team and the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA).

Verway has been named team captain, leading a contingent of 40 junior squash players who will represent Guyana across various age categories in the Caribbean Squash Championship.

As the championship draws near, Verway and Alphonso are committed to continuing their training and are eager to showcase their skills on the international stage.
