Prime Minister Brigadier Mark Phillips took the lead in organizing a cleanup exercise in Linden, marking preparations for the upcoming 58th Independence Day Anniversary flag-raising ceremony.
Accompanied by Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill, Prime Minister Phillips joined forces with residents of Linden to clean up twelve communities, including the Mackenzie Sports Club and its surroundings.
This initiative is part of the town’s preparations to host the main Independence Day celebrations this year.
Minister Edghill emphasized that this cleanup effort presents an excellent opportunity to showcase Linden’s development and for citizens to reap the benefits of various opportunities.
He expressed pride in Linden’s readiness to host such a significant national event.
Minister Edghill stressed the importance of unity among all Guyanese, irrespective of political affiliations, during the Independence Day celebrations.
He encouraged citizens to actively participate in the festivities by displaying national pride, such as flying the Guyanese flag and making arrangements to attend the events at the Mackenzie Sports Club, which will be transformed into the Mackenzie Stadium for the occasion.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Public Works will provide support by installing lights and organizing parking spaces to facilitate smooth logistics during the celebrations.
The Independence Day festivities in Linden will feature various attractions, including para-trooping by the Guyana Defence Force, a fireworks display at the Mackenzie Band Stand, cultural performances, and a march band procession.
