Ministry of Sport and GOA Suspend Talks with GASA Over Pending Issues

By Travis Seymour

The Ministry of Sport and the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) have taken decisive action against the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) following a series of unresolved issues.

Minister of Sport, Charles Ramson Jr, has declared GASA non-compliant after meetings with GASA executives and local clubs and stakeholders revealed concerns.

Among the issues raised are the absence of audited financial reports from GASA and allegations of unfair treatment and misuse of the government pool by stakeholders.

As a result, Minister Ramson announced the suspension of engagement with GASA until these matters are adequately addressed.

In addition to this suspension, Minister Ramson announced the immediate implementation of a new schedule for the usage of the National Aquatic Center.

This decision aims to ensure equitable access to facilities for all stakeholders involved in swimming activities.

Furthermore, Minister Ramson urged aggrieved clubs and individuals to provide written statements detailing their concerns.

These statements will be included in a letter to be sent to World Aquatics, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced within the swimming community in Guyana.

Echoing Minister Ramson’s sentiments, Guyana Olympic Association President Godfrey Munroe emphasized that these issues have been raised repeatedly in the past.

The GOA remains committed to addressing these concerns and ensuring transparency and fairness within the swimming fraternity.

The actions taken by the Ministry of Sport and the GOA underscore their commitment to upholding accountability and fairness within the sporting sector.

It is hoped that these measures will pave the way for constructive dialogue and resolution of the issues affecting the swimming community in Guyana.
