Chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, Tim Walz, has reiterated the United States’ backing for Guyana amidst escalating tensions with Venezuela over the Essequibo region.

During an interview with Arick Wierson for Newsweek Magazine, Walz emphasized the importance of upholding global stability.

Venezuela has persistently advanced its claims over Guyana’s Essequibo region, despite ongoing proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

In response, Governor Tim Walz underscored the crucial role of the United States in maintaining international stability, linking it to national success.

For Guyanese citizens concerned about potential violence in their region, Walz’s assurances provide a sense of comfort.

He emphasized the commitment to security and engagement with all parties involved.

Despite the challenges, Guyanese officials have remained steadfast in their diplomatic and defensive efforts, seeking a peaceful resolution that safeguards Guyana’s stability and sovereignty.

Former Colombian President Ivan Duque has condemned Nicolas Maduro’s attempts to exploit the border dispute with Guyana for domestic purposes and to garner support for upcoming elections.

In response to recent developments, Vice-President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo affirmed the government’s vigilance regarding Venezuelan authorities’ activities on Ankoko Island.

With ongoing support from allies like the United States, Guyana continues to navigate diplomatic channels and pursue measures aimed at preserving its territorial integrity and security.
