During Nursing Week, celebrated from May 6 to 12, nurses, the often unsung heroes of the healthcare sector, are recognized for their invaluable contributions through the Nurses Appreciation and Awards ceremony hosted by the Nurses and Midwives Council of Guyana.
Nurses from all ten administrative regions were honored for their exceptional dedication to the health sector during this ceremony.
Among the awardees were Midwife Elane Thomas of Region 1, Midwife Locrecia Innis of Region 2, Midwife Muriel Moore of Region 3, and Nurse Trecia Hubbard of Region 8.
The nurses and midwives were encouraged to continue upskilling themselves in light of the continuous advancements in medicine.
Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony addressed the ceremony, urging medical professionals to organize and participate in research conferences.
Dr. Anthony emphasized the importance of documenting and discussing experiences in nursing, suggesting the organization of conferences dedicated to the profession.
He urged nurses to share their knowledge during breaks, fostering an environment of continuous learning and professional development.
Additionally, the minister called upon the Nursing and Midwives Council of Guyana to publish the stories of awardees, further highlighting their achievements and contributions to healthcare.
Nursing Week serves as a poignant reminder of the vital role nurses play in safeguarding public health and promoting well-being.
As the backbone of the healthcare system, nurses deserve recognition and appreciation for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to patient care.
