Jamaican Minister of Information, Robert Morgan, recently embarked on a tour of the Guyana Shore Base Inc (GYSBI), where he gained firsthand insight into the development of Guyana’s burgeoning oil industry.

Expressing his delight at witnessing the progress, Minister Morgan commended the strength and innovativeness of the Guyanese people, emphasizing the significant economic benefits stemming from the industry’s growth.

During the tour, Minister Morgan underscored the importance of effective management in maximizing the potential of the oil industry, highlighting its capacity to yield substantial benefits for current and future generations.

Drawing parallels with successful oil-producing nations like Norway, he expressed optimism about Guyana’s prospects for success if it continues to manage its affairs efficiently.

GYSBI, established in 2017 to provide shore base services to ExxonMobil following the discovery of oil, has played a pivotal role in supporting the industry’s expansion.

Over the past five years, the company has undergone continuous growth, boasting a workforce of more than 805 employees, with a minimum of 95 percent being Guyanese.

Furthermore, GYSBI has emerged as a leading developer of local content, contributing significantly to Guyana’s economic development.

Minister Morgan’s visit to GYSBI signifies the growing interest in Guyana’s oil industry on the international stage, as the country continues to make strides in harnessing its oil resources for sustainable growth.

His remarks during the tour underscore the importance of effective management and collaboration in ensuring the industry’s long-term success.
