The Government of Guyana has unveiled significant diplomatic appointments, reinforcing its commitment to strengthen international relations with key partner countries.
The recent diplomatic appointments, signaling Guyana’s strategic approach to bolstering ties with Brazil, Switzerland, and Belgium has Professor Compton Bourne designated as the Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil.
With a distinguished career, including serving as President of the Caribbean Development Bank and Chancellor of the University of Guyana, Professor Bourne brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud highlights Brazil’s importance as a strategic partner and neighbor, underscoring the potential for enhanced collaboration under Professor Bourne’s stewardship.
Former Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy has been appointed as the Ambassador to Switzerland, concurrently serving as Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
Additionally, Sasenarine Singh, former CEO of Guysuco, assumes the role of Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium.
Singh will also serve as Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the European Union and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, based in Brussels.
Foreign Secretary Persaud emphasizes the significance of these appointments in advancing Guyana’s national and foreign policy agendas.
The filled positions are poised to support the country’s growing stature and strengthen its engagement on regional and multilateral platforms.
In a separate development, Guyana’s Ambassador to China, Anyin Choo, has been accredited as the country’s non-resident High Commissioner to Singapore, further expanding Guyana’s diplomatic footprint.
