The upcoming 32nd People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Congress is poised to be the largest gathering in the party’s history, with over 3000 delegates expected to participate.
General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo announced that 93 individuals are competing for election to the 35-member central committee of the party, underscoring the significant interest and engagement within the party ranks.
Speaking at a press conference held at Freedom House, Dr. Jagdeo clarified the process for electing a new General Secretary and other party officials.
He emphasized the democratic nature of the proceedings, highlighting the crucial role of the central committee in shaping the party’s direction and leadership.
The congress will feature a comprehensive report presented by the General Secretary, outlining the party’s progress since the last congress, its efforts to fulfill its manifesto, and future development plans for the country.
Dr. Jagdeo underscored the importance of discussing ideas for the party’s growth and development, inviting active participation from all attendees.
Over the course of the congress, delegates will have the opportunity to engage in seven workshops covering various aspects of party strengthening, politics, policy development, social media, international affairs, and youth and gender issues.
This inclusive approach aims to foster dialogue, exchange of ideas, and capacity building within the party.
Registration for the congress will take place at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre on Friday, followed by the official opening ceremony on Saturday.
The main sessions, including workshops and discussions, will conclude on Sunday.
The 32nd PPP Congress represents a significant moment for the party, reflecting its commitment to democratic principles, grassroots engagement, and continuous development.
