By Tyriq Walters

The Vurlon Mills Football Academy is on the lookout for budding talents, and they’re starting young.

This weekend, they’re hosting an under-eight football festival at the St. Stanislaus College ground, Carifesta Avenue.

In a country where the under-eight category of football often receives little attention, the Vurlon Mills Football Academy is aiming to change the game.

Director of the academy, Vurlon Mills, emphasized in an interview with NCN that the event will be more than just football—it will be a family fun day.

Mills highlighted the holistic nature of the event, stating that while football will be the main focus, there will also be various fun activities for participants to enjoy.

The primary objective, however, remains to identify and nurture young talents for the future of football in Guyana.

Mills expressed hope that the festival would serve as a platform to spot talented kids who can be groomed for success.

As a national under-17 coach himself, Mills emphasized the importance of having data on potential players for future reference.

He stressed the significance of providing opportunities for young players to showcase their skills and talents.

The family fun day is scheduled to kick off at 10 a.m. on April 27 and will feature various games, including penalty kicks and parents’ races, among other exciting activities.

With the goal of fostering a love for the sport from a young age and identifying promising talents, the Vurlon Mills Football Academy is poised to make a positive impact on the future of football in Guyana.
