The Georgetown Film Festival (GFF) recently debuted its latest offering, “Old Toy Train,” during a fundraising event at the British High Commissioner’s Residence.
This new short film delves into themes of love, aging, family, and difficult decisions, aiming to authentically capture the Guyanese experience.
Co-founder and Creative Producer of the GFF, Akbar Singh, expressed the festival’s commitment to showcasing stories from the Guyanese perspective.
Their vision is to produce and distribute films that highlight the quality and richness of Guyanese narratives, fostering greater appreciation and understanding globally.
Meanwhile, British High Commissioner to Guyana, Jane Miller, pledged her support to the Georgetown Film Festival and stressed the significance of investing in the creative industry, also known as the “orange” sector.
Miller emphasized the potential of the creative sector to contribute significantly to Guyana’s economy and highlighted the abundance of talented individuals within the country.
“Old Toy Train” was written and directed by Kevin Garbaran, featuring performances by Rae Wiltshire, Marisa Morgan-Bonie, Renita Doodnauth-Dindyal, Michael Khan, and Adhinav Richard.
The film underscores the dedication of the Georgetown Film Festival, a non-profit organization founded by young creatives, to promote Guyanese talent and storytelling.
Through initiatives like “Old Toy Train,” the Georgetown Film Festival continues to serve as a platform for celebrating and sharing the diverse narratives of Guyana.
