Labour Ministry Hosts Occupational Safety and Health Fair

By Fabiana McKlmon

In observance of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) month, the Ministry of Labour organized an OSH fair at its Brickdam Office.

Attendees had the opportunity to engage in both educational and recreational activities at the fair, which aimed to raise awareness about occupational safety and health.

Hon. Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, underscored that OSH is not just a concern for employers and employees but a national issue that requires collective responsibility.

He emphasized the need for concerted efforts from all citizens to address OSH challenges.

Gwen King, an OSH Consultant at the Ministry of Labour, highlighted the significance of ongoing initiatives to raise public awareness about OSH.

She emphasized the importance of continuously striving to improve working conditions and the environment throughout Guyana.

The fair was part of a series of activities held throughout the month to promote OSH awareness.

These efforts culminate on Occupational Safety and Health Day, which will be celebrated on Sunday, April 28, under the theme “We are running out of time: ensuring safe and healthy work now in a changing climate.”

A walk will be organized on that day to further raise awareness about OSH.

By fostering dialogue and engagement through events like the OSH fair, the Ministry of Labour aims to enhance understanding and commitment to ensuring safe and healthy working environments for all Guyanese.
