In recognition of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Month, the Ministry of Labour is set to host an informative exhibition on Wednesday, April 24, at its headquarters on Brickdam, Georgetown.
This event, organized by the OSH Department, aims to raise awareness about workplace safety measures and provide valuable insights into emerging trends in the field.
Assistant Chief Occupational Safety and Health Officer, Roydon Croal, expressed the importance of the fair in educating attendees about safety precautions at work.
Various entities from both the public and private sectors will participate, offering demonstrations and sharing expertise on topics such as personal protective equipment (PPE), maritime safety, and the handling of toxic chemicals.
Croal emphasized the significance of sensitizing the public, especially students entering the workforce, about the importance of OSH practices.
He hopes that the event will empower attendees with the knowledge to create safer working environments and understand their rights under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
The fair comes at a crucial time when workplace safety is increasingly paramount, with statistics from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) highlighting the prevalence of work-related accidents and illnesses globally.
With an estimated 2.3 million fatalities and millions more affected annually, the need for proactive safety measures is evident.
