Tourism entities and businesses joined forces to observe World Earth Day by conducting environmental clean-up activities at Fort Island, Baracara Falls, and Bartica Beach.
The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), along with the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana, teamed up with local tour operator Old Forts Tour for this meaningful initiative.
Kamrul Baksh, Director of the GTA, emphasized the significance of such endeavors in promoting environmental stewardship.
“The reason for this, of course, is one to demonstrate our commitment to keeping our surroundings clean, and we really hope that such exercise, demonstrated not only by private operators and central government, is seen as a catalyst for behavioral change,” remarked Kamrul Baksh.
Vincent Latchman, Operations Manager at Old Forts Tour, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the positive impact such initiatives can have on fostering a culture of cleanliness.
“In the future, if they can see that we are trying to keep Guyana clean, I’m hoping from this initiative here, hopefully, they can follow in our footsteps and try to keep the place clean,” expressed Vincent Latchman.
These clean-up efforts are part of a broader initiative, with several other government agencies and private tour operators planning similar activities throughout the month at various tourism destinations across the country.
