Former Alliance for Change (AFC) Parliamentarian, Trevor Williams, has expressed criticism towards the party for proposing public security measures after alleged corruption within the Security Sector.
In a letter to the editor, Williams voiced his disappointment with the Alliance for Change, describing it as the ‘Press Release’ party, now focusing on recommendations and proposals for improved security, which he claims it failed to address during its tenure in the Coalition government.
During an AFC program, ‘Alliance on the Move,’ former Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan highlighted several measures to address serious crimes, emphasizing the need to build trust between communities and law enforcement agencies and halt the politicization of law enforcement.
Williams countered by accusing the AFC of presiding over a corrupted system during its security portfolio, including the issuance of firearm licenses and citizenship.
He criticized the party for alleged abuses within the Guyana Police Force and mishandling security breaches, such as the Camp Street Prison fire.
The AFC and the APNU governed Guyana between 2015 and 2020.
