Public Works Minister Juan Edghill’s recent address to truck drivers, urged them to adopt a new culture on the roadways that prioritizes the safety of commuters and motorists and ensures the longevity of infrastructure.
During a consultation with truck drivers, Minister Edghill emphasized the critical role of lorry drivers in fostering infrastructural developments.
However, he expressed concern over the prevalent violations of road laws, including overweight tonnage, reckless driving, and transporting materials without covers, which pose significant safety risks.
Minister Edghill called for a shift away from these practices, stressing the need for a culture change to curb lawlessness on the roadways.
He warned that stern measures would be enforced by the Guyana Police Force to eradicate these practices.
In response to the Minister’s plea, one lorry driver urged his colleagues to prioritize safety measures, emphasizing the importance of adherence to road laws.
Additionally, Minister Edghill encouraged citizens to report violations by drivers on the roadways by recording videos and sending them to the Ministry of Public Works for appropriate action.
