Sergeant Kelvin Leitch, attached to the Beterverwagting Traffic Police Division, has highlighted the success of increased police presence during and after peak traffic hours in reducing traffic offences along the East Coast Demerara.
Offences such as speeding, overloading minibuses, and breaching traffic light signals have notably decreased in the region.
Meanwhile, Subordinate Officer Sergeant Caleb, in charge of Regional Division 4C, underscores the persistent issue of failure to wear helmets among motorcyclists as the most prevalent traffic offence in his district.
Despite efforts to enforce regulations, this offence remains a challenge, with approximately 800 offences recorded within Traffic Division 4C so far this year.
The Guyana Police Force has been proactive in addressing traffic violations by dispatching officers across the country on a weekly basis to conduct lectures on traffic laws.
These lectures target various road users, including minibus drivers, motorcyclists, students, and hire car drivers, aiming to educate and raise awareness about road safety.
