Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, has officially commissioned the first Regional Dental Unit in Christianburg, Linden, Region Ten, with the objective of delivering high-quality dental care services to residents.
The Regional Dental Unit, situated at the former Christianburg Health Centre, is fully equipped to cater to the dental care needs of the region’s populace.
Following a simple ribbon-cutting ceremony involving trained dental aids, the facility was inaugurated on Wednesday.
Dr. Anthony emphasized that the primary goal of the unit is to ensure access to quality dental care for all residents of the region.
He underscored the importance of promoting preventative care alongside treatments aimed at repairing, restoring, and maintaining optimal dental hygiene.
Principal Dental Surgeon, Dr. Marvin Monize, from the Cheddi Jagan Dental School, highlighted the specialized dental services that the unit will offer.
He noted that last year alone, Region Ten saw 7,000 dental procedures, and with the establishment of the new unit, it is anticipated that this number will double.
Regional Health Officer for Region Ten, Dr. Gregory Harris, expressed pride in the advancements being made in dental care services within the region.
He emphasized the significance of this initiative in enhancing the overall health and well-being of the community.
The rehabilitation of the facility, valued at $7 million, included the procurement of equipment worth $15 million.
With state-of-the-art facilities and a dedicated team, the Regional Dental Unit is poised to significantly improve dental healthcare accessibility and quality in Linden and surrounding areas.
