A tragic accident on the Corentyne highway claimed the life of a 17-year-old teenager who reportedly lost control of his motorbike and collided with a utility vehicle.
The deceased teenager has been identified as Karan Dhuman, residing at lot 334 School Street, Bushlot Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Karan was riding motorcycle CL 9018 at around 1:50 AM on Monday, proceeding west along the southern drive lane on the Bushlot Farm Public Road, Corentyne.
Allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed, he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a Guyana Power and Light utility pole.
His mother, Minawattie Pampersaud, recounted the devastating moment when she received the news of her son’s accident. “My sister’s son came running and said my baby was in an accident and lying on the road. I ran to see him and found him lying motionless,” she shared.
Despite her attempts to wake him, Karan remained unresponsive.
As a result of the collision, Karan was thrown off his motorcycle and sustained severe injuries.
Police and public-spirited citizens rushed him to Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Minawattie Pampersaud is urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, as conflicting reports have emerged about what truly happened. “I want the story to go far with the investigation because I can’t believe my son had an accident like that. He had no scratches, bruises, or head injuries, and he didn’t go far from the spot of impact,” she expressed.
Describing her son as a loving individual who stayed out of trouble, Minawattie Pampersaud expressed profound grief over his loss.
Karan Dhuman’s untimely death has left a void in the community, as he will be dearly missed.
