In an effort to enhance tourism in Region Six, the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the Guyana Tourism Authority, recently conducted a three-day tour guide training workshop for 30 individuals.
The training workshop, held with a focus on leadership, effective communication, the use of visual aids and voice, management skills, and understanding guest needs, aimed to equip participants with the necessary expertise to deliver exceptional service to tourists.
Additionally, participants had the opportunity to explore potential tourism sites in the region, igniting their enthusiasm for showcasing Guyana’s beauty to the world.
Chetnauth Persaud, Senior Training and Tourism Development Officer, highlighted the significance of the training in preparing individuals to work with tour companies nationwide or establish their own.
Noting the growing tourism potential in Berbice, Persaud emphasized the importance of ensuring that individuals possess the requisite skills to meet the demands of the industry.
The training encompassed both theoretical and practical components, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of tour guiding principles.
Some participants shared insights into their learning experiences during the workshop.
The tour guide training commenced at the Leisure Inn hotel in New Amsterdam on Wednesday and concluded on Friday, marking a significant step forward in enhancing tourism capabilities in Region Six.
