West Indies Seeks to Replicate 2012/2016 Title Runs

Daren Sammy, the head coach of the West Indies limited-overs side, is optimistic about the team’s potential to replicate the successes of the 2012 and 2016 ICC T20 World Cup title runs.

Despite not securing victory in the recent T20 series against Australia, Sammy is pleased with the depth of talent in the Caribbean squad, particularly highlighting the impressive batting performance against Australia earlier in the year.

During the series against Australia, the West Indies showcased their batting prowess by consistently scoring 200 runs in each innings, demonstrating their capability as a formidable force in the limited-overs format.

Sammy expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to replicate the performances of the 2012 and 2016 World Cup-winning squads.

He emphasized the talent and potential within the current squad, citing players like Romario Shepherd and others as key contributors to the team’s success.

In the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, the West Indies have been placed in Group C alongside Afghanistan, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda.

Their journey in the tournament will begin with a match against Papua New Guinea on June 2 in Guyana, followed by matches against Uganda on June 8 at Providence Stadium.

Subsequently, they will face New Zealand in Trinidad on June 12 before concluding the group phase with a match against Afghanistan at the Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia on June 17.

With a strong lineup and determination to succeed, the West Indies are aiming for their third T20 World Cup title, and under the guidance of coach Daren Sammy, they are poised to make a formidable challenge for the championship.
