President Dr. Irfaan Ali and General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, along with other prominent figures, gathered at Babu Jaan, Port Mourant, to mark the 106th birth anniversary and 27th death anniversary of PPP/C founder and former President, Dr. Cheddi Jagan.

The event celebrated the life, work, and legacy of Dr. Cheddi Jagan, while also honoring the contributions of co-founder Janet Jagan, who passed away in March 2009.

President Ali described Dr. Jagan as a visionary and emphasized the ongoing struggle of PPP/C members to preserve the “soul” of the nation.

President Ali eloquently likened the soul of a nation to that of an individual, stressing the importance of nurturing and protecting it to uphold the nation’s identity, values, and aspirations.

He emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard democracy and uphold the will of the people.

Dr. Jagdeo echoed President Ali’s sentiments, calling on every citizen to embrace the ‘One Guyana’ mindset and promoting true inclusivity in national development efforts.

Reflecting on Dr. Cheddi Jagan’s initiatives, Dr. Jagdeo highlighted the success of long-term projects like the construction of a canal in the Mahaica Mahaicony areas, which significantly mitigated flooding and demonstrated the importance of forward-thinking planning.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the upliftment, safety, and dignity of the Guyanese people, pledging to continue the fight for democracy, freedom, and human dignity.
