In Linden, the legacy of former president and founder of the People’s Progressive Party, Dr. Cheddi Jagan, continues to be honored and remembered, twenty-seven years after his passing.
Members of the PPP Wismar Flat Group gathered to commemorate the anniversary of Dr. Cheddi Jagan’s death by conducting a clean-up exercise at the aluminum plant monument on Tuesday morning.
This monument, commissioned by Dr. Jagan in March 1961, stands as a resilient landmark in Linden, symbolizing his contributions to the nation.
During the clean-up, Sherry Fyffe-James, a member of the PPP, emphasized the significance of the aluminum plant monument, describing it as one of Linden’s treasures, established by Dr. Jagan during his tenure as Minister of Trade.
The group remains committed to preserving this important piece of history.
Brian McRae, another party member, highlighted their efforts to educate the community about Dr. Jagan’s contributions to the aluminum plant’s operations and the lasting legacy he left behind.
Throughout the day, they engaged in activities aimed at sensitizing people about the history and importance of Dr. Jagan’s role in the development of Linden.
Dr. Cheddi Jagan, born in 1918, held various significant positions in Guyana’s political landscape.
He was elected as Chief Minister in 1953 and later served as Premier of British Guiana from 1961 to 1964. Dr. Jagan went on to become the President of Guyana in 1992, serving until his passing in 1997.
