Fire Renders Berbice Family Homeless; Six Affected by Blaze

A devastating fire of unknown origin engulfed a two-storey house in New Area Canefield, East Canje Berbice, earlier today, leaving six people homeless and prompting an investigation by the Guyana Fire Service.

According to reports from the scene, the fire erupted around 7:30 in the morning, catching the occupants off guard.

Melissa Romalho, one of the residents, recounted how she spotted smoke billowing from the upper level of the house while conversing with her husband.

She immediately sprang into action, searching for her two children and alerting the other occupants to evacuate.

Melissa’s mother, Elna Thornhill, who was in the shower at the time of the incident, expressed shock and disbelief, stating that she was unaware of what may have caused the fire.

As the family grapples with the aftermath of the blaze and the loss of their home, they are reaching out for assistance from the public.
