Haiti Commits to General Elections by August 2025

Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry has made a significant commitment to the political future of the country by agreeing to hold general elections by mid-2025.

This announcement came following discussions during the 46th Meeting of Caricom Heads, as revealed by Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Philip Davis.

Prime Minister Davis highlighted the extensive deliberations on Haiti’s political crisis during the meeting, emphasizing that it was a focal point alongside the security and humanitarian challenges facing the nation.

Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry of Haiti was also present during these discussions.

To facilitate the electoral process, Prime Minister Davis outlined plans to establish an election needs gap assessment team with support from the United Nations, Canada, the United States, and the Organization of American States.

This collaborative effort aims to ensure that Haiti can hold its general elections successfully by the specified deadline of August 2025.

However, recent events have underscored the urgency of the situation, with demonstrations calling for the resignation of Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

Prime Minister Davis expressed deep concern over the ongoing security deterioration in Haiti, emphasizing the need for swift action to address the country’s challenges.

As Haiti navigates through its political and security crises, the commitment to hold general elections by August 2025 signals a crucial step towards stability and democratic governance in the nation.
