A groundbreaking initiative, the ‘One Guyana Digital’ program, has been officially launched as a collaborative effort between the Government of Guyana and Toronto Metropolitan University.
This ambitious endeavor aims to provide digital skills training to over 2,000 Guyanese citizens, marking a significant step towards positioning Guyana as a global digital services hub.
President Irfaan Ali emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it is not only crucial for the country’s economic and social development but also instrumental in propelling Guyana to the forefront of the global digital economy.
The program, which carries a cost of US$10,000 per person, will be offered free of charge to all interested citizens, with a promise of employment upon completion.
During the launch event, Canada’s Minister of International Development, Ahmed Hussen, underscored the longstanding ties between Guyana and Canada and expressed Canada’s commitment to supporting Guyana’s efforts towards inclusive economic growth and national development.
Minister Hussen announced a significant financial contribution of up to $9.5 million from Canada to support the ‘One Guyana Digital’ skills initiative, further highlighting the collaborative partnership between the two nations.
The initiative aims to provide comprehensive eight-month training courses in both front-end and back-end technologies, preparing participants for the demands of the global tech industry.
The program is scheduled to commence on May 24, with the first cohort of 500 students embarking on the transformative eight-month journey.
Upon completion, participants are expected to emerge as full-stack developers, equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the digital landscape.
The ‘One Guyana Digital’ initiative represents a significant investment in the future of Guyanese citizens, empowering them with valuable digital skills and opening doors to exciting employment opportunities in the rapidly evolving tech industry.
By fostering digital literacy and expertise, the program not only enhances individual prospects but also contributes to the overall advancement and competitiveness of Guyana on the global stage.
