In a thrilling match at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, defending regional 4-day champions, Guyana Harpy Eagles, clinched their first victory in this year’s West Indies Championship.
Led by Isai Thorne’s stellar performance, the Eagles soared to a commanding 221-run win over the West Indies Academy.
The West Indies Academy, needing 268 runs for victory on the fourth day, faltered under the pressure of Guyana’s bowlers.
Isai Thorne spearheaded the attack, claiming 4 wickets for 49 runs, with support from Kevin Sinclair (2 for 30) and Versammy Permaul (2 for 48).
Kevin Sinclair’s magnificent unbeaten 165 in the second innings propelled Guyana to a commanding position, as they declared at 429 for 7.
Komal Savory (58), Ronaldo Alimohammed (31), and Versammy Permaul (29*) contributed to the team’s formidable total.
In the first innings, Guyana was dismissed for 175, with West Indies Academy’s Joshua James taking 4 wickets.
The Eagles then showcased their bowling prowess, restricting the Academy to 162, with Gudakesh Motie and Versammy Permaul claiming three wickets each, and Sinclair bagging 4 wickets.
Tevin Imlach, expressing elation for the team’s victory, credited their seasoned mindset for the win.
He emphasized the importance of teamwork in their success.
Looking ahead, Guyana Harpy Eagles will face Barbados Pride from March 13-16 at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in Trinidad.
